Welcome to St. Mary’s Primary School website. I am extremely honoured to be the Head Teacher of St. Mary’s, we are very proud of our school, our pupils and their successes.
The current building of St. Mary’s Primary School was opened to pupils on 3rd June 2011. It serves central Hamilton, part of Silvertonhill, Chantinghall, Laighstonehall and Ferniegair. It is situated in the same quiet, peaceful location as the previous building which opened in 1957. The history of the school goes back to 1853 when the original school was opened in a room beneath the sanctuary of St. Mary’s Church. A new St. Mary’s building was opened in 1873 in Muir Street, Hamilton which in 1957 became Holy Cross Senior Secondary School.
As a denominational school, our staff and pupils demonstrate our school values of hard work, joy, love, forgiveness and compassion in their every day life. By following our school rules of ‘Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe’, our pupils are encouraged and supported to reach their full potential and find success.

Purchasing uniform:
We have an extremely supportive Parent Council who meet monthly and work in partnership with us to support the work of the school. Our Parent Council is almost 40 members strong, with good representation across the school. Each year they organise various events and initiatives to raise funds to benefit our pupils and families. These events include a Blazer Exchange, Monthly Draw, Hallowe’en Trek, Sacrament Celebrations, Christmas Fayre, P1 enrolment gifts, Summer Fayre, P7 BBQ and gifts.
